A cut above........Jazz pianist Mike Longo, a true master of the horn line as it were, has an immense capacity to build a fascinating, energetic undercurrent of harmonic-meloic interest to 'catch' his listeners. He plays his piano with a tonal texture that is both delicate and subtle, yet strong and passionate in its intensity.
His 'collab' with the great Dizzy Gillespie is manifest in his 'individual' approach to meter. He is capable of compelling contrapuntal passages that sometime lead to some very interesting and broad emphatic cadences, ergo his 'control' is in a word fortuitious. Last, his choice of songs are noteworthy for their extraordinary contrasts, (musically). You can almost hear the comtemplation while at the same time note a certain exuberant joy that is infectious. So, take note that this sleeping bee can 'sting.'
